Hi all...I picked up a hot water valve (GM #3984641) for my '69 L46 w/o AC. It looks just like the one in the AIM but, I have a hard time telling where it mounts on cars w/AC. It looks like it goes on the motor box, but I'm not sure.
Additionally, it's supposed to go inline with the core inlet, 3/4 hose, but it, and all the valves I look at, fit better on the 5/8 hose. Can anybody elaborate on this please.
Thanks
On my '69 427 with A/C the water valve mounts on the RH side of the heater box. Here's a picture through the #3 (from the front) RH side "gill". Look closely in the AIM in the UPC C60, D6 section for the detailed hose routing.
Hi Don, thanks for the reply. Yeah, page 345 I'm looking at it now. Inline with the top pipe. But location still leaves me a little bewildered. Also the 3/4' hose thing. Seems like the water valve is best suited for a 5/8" hose. Are your's 3/4" in and 5/8" out of the core?
Thanks for the pic.
Interesting, C60 D6 is page 342 in my AIM. On my car the 3/4" hose goes from the water pump to to the brass expansion tank. From the other side of the tank the 3/4" hose goes to the heater core. My 5/8" hose goes from the intake manifold to the water valve and from the other side of the water valve to the the heater core.
I replaced my hoses last year with a set of molded hoses I got from Dr. Rebuild.
Thanks Don , I guess that makes sense in terms of the size of the tubes on the valve. I thought the water flow direction was "in" the 3/4 side from the pump, and out 5/8 to the manilfold. I thought putting the water valve inline with the 5/8" would leave hot water in the core. Thanks for the clarification..I think.
