Can someone post a picture of a correct RFI shield(71)?
Also on 71 was any there any information on drivers visor (engine starting procedure or maintenance schedule)?
Thanks WB
Thanks gq82, great picture! The AM on my radio does not work (static only), could a missing shield cause this?
Also does anyone have the answer to my second question? Thanks WB
I don't have this shield installed on my car and my am/fm radio plays just fine. Do you get static with the engine off?
I don't believe there were instruction sheets attached to the visors. The NCRS doesn't judge for them and I've never seen any on some very low mileage original 71's.
Yes your right, static with motor running or not, I'm trying to avoid tearing the radio out. The FM works fine. As I was going over older judging sheets I noticed that one judge deducted for no shield.
As for the instructions on the visor I'm hearing conflicting info:
a. no instructions
b. slip-on paper engine starting instructions, damaged when removed
c. glued-on maintanence instructions
Thanks again WB
Thanks Chuck, Terry McManmon response to this question on the NCRS board,
"That is true Jerry. The entire shield has two halves. Does this one have an opening in the vertical surface -- the one we cannot see? If so, it is the half for the front of the distributor and is the only part that is visible to the judges. The judge will ask you to raise the door in the distributor cap so he/she can see the shield inside. Thus only that small portion with an opening for the point’s adjustment is visible."
Looks like I have the half that counts. Thanks again for pointing it out Chuck.
You can find them at flea markets, pretty cheap. I've seen LIKE NEW shields sell for $20/pr.
Sometimes, you can find a pretty nice set in the $1.00 box. Those are the best ones. Chuck
Thanks Chuck for your info, if you happpen across a set please let me know! We met briefly at the Florida regional, while standing near Bill Skinner's racer.......perhaps you remember? Thanks again Kevin
To clarify, cars built for delivery in 72 had a starting procedure label made of nylon cloth gluded to the drivers visor, part # 327568.
No visor labels in '71.
WB, I was told that the radio would have to come out fix the AM. Appearantly something inside commonly goes bad causing inop AM. Still wish I'd noticed that when the radio was out while doing the heater core...
On all 72's there is a cloth type sticker on the drivers sun vsisor.
I was told by a judge in Kissimmee that on very late production 71' cars, it would be there also. But he said only on last two or three month production cars.
He also went on to say that the same cars might have 72' style front grills with no fiber optics.

Hope this helps some.

72ls5fla, Thanks for the reply. My car is not a late production as it was built in Feb. Therefore it would be without the sticker, I believe. One other item changed during the year was the headlight washer nozzles. WB

My documented LT1 - built February 28, 1972, has the factory cloth sticker...
