My '00 convertible was starting to have difficulty in shifting. It felt like the clutch was not completely disengaging. I'd put the pedal to the floor, but the tranny just didn't want to slide on or out of gear easily.
Thought that it might be a clutch problem — that the clutch wasn't disengaging completely. So I opened the clutch fluid reservoir, only to find that the level was full. Cleaned the rubber diaphragm and closed the reservoir.
How much is the answer worth to you, Geez? :D :D :D
In my opinion, it can only be one thing, and Bill ALMOST has it. Has it been cooling off a little up there (relatively speaking, of course) . My theory is that your MC lid vent is obstructed: When the MC got very warm this summer, the fluid and air space above the fluid expanded, forcing the air above fluid to vent through the MC lid closure. Then, when the weather cooled slightly, the MC lid did not allow air back into the MC, and the air space contracted and reduced the "fluid head" on either the MC or the slave cylinder keeping it from functioning as designed (don't ask me, this is just a theory :D ). When you removed the lid, you vented the MC, allowing full atmosphereic pressure to be applied to the fluid, and the clutch worked again.
If it were me, I believe I would check the MC lid real close; this will probably happen again. Another possibility is that the MC is slightly by-passing some fluid and is barely adequate. Under this "unvented" condition, it is no longer strong enough to operate the slave.
Is the oscillation frequency the same as wheel rotational speed, i.e. slows when the car slows, speeds up when you accelerate? It sounds like tire noise to me. Send it on down and let me drive it a few weeks; I'll be better able to pin it down for you.l
the stock run flats make all kinds of noise as the start to wear down. my were so noisy at 13,000 miles on my 97 i got rid of the car and picked up a 99 with 4000 miles. the wife bought this theory, good thinking right?
