GM restoration document confirmation
I ordered and received the restoration documentation fopr my 1985 L98 Z-51 Coupe. In the documentation the piston mateiral indicates "imapcated forged aluminum pistons" and 76cc iron heads. The compression ratio was 9.1 to 1. I take this to mean forged aluminum pistons. Is this right? Eveyone tells me they are unaware of forged pistons being used in Chevy V-8s after the 70's. Should I trust the GM documentation? Where should I go to get confirmation from GM?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: GM restoration document confirmation (texican2K)
GM has always refered to forged pistons as "impact extruded". As you, I was unaware
that GM used them this late, but Joe Lucia probably knows if this is correct.
What is the actual document that contains the statement - AMA specifications? Could
be it's an error.

Re: GM restoration document confirmation (SWCDuke)
Hi Duke,
I ordered a restoration information package direct from GM when they were doing this. I don't know if GM is still this bussiness. I got 4 photo copied sets of documentation direct from GM.
1 is 1985 Corvette specs
2 is Corvette past model information
3 Daves Corvette restoration 1997 catalogue
4 Chevrolet Customer Assitance Center Chevrolet Hobby and Sales Group
The fourth manual has a mailing address of:
Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center
P. O./ Box 7047
Troy, MI 48007
The Spec manual has a "MVMA Specifications Form-C-85" with mailing address:
Chevrolet Engineering Center
30003 Van ****
Warren, MI 480990-9060
The Engine-Pistons section
material & mass. g (weight. oz) - pistons only
"Impacted forged aluinmum, .579 (20.4)"
I think .579 would be KG and 20.4 would be ounces.
This spec sheet shows issued 7/84 revised 9/84.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Texican2K --- What type of "restoration documentation" did you order and what is the source?

The MVMA specs are probably correct.

Go to the site above with your VIN. I e-mailed them and requested the restoration documentation on my 85. I received the info in about 6 weeks. You can also call 800-222-1020 their customer assitance number. Have your VIN again and they will send out the package. Some folks had trouble using the phone number back then. It seemed to take longer. I just talked with a man named Marion at the 800 number and he confirmed the program is still in operation. He said it did include the vehicle specifications in the package.
Give them a call or e-mail and see if they don't respond. Remember no VIN no deal.
Good Luck

t2k, Thanks for the link! I tried the phone number a couple of years ago and got nowhere. They offered to sell me a restoration PARTS catalog for $50 or something like that, I cant remember. Anyway, it sure is easy to fill out the online form and send an email. we will see if it works! MJ

Re: GM restoration document confirmation (texican2K)
Thanks for the link. I entered the VINs for my '68 and my '80. I don't expect to receive too much information from GM since the records are supposed to be non-existent for Corvettes as old as my girls, but I will have satisified my curiosity.

Re: GM restoration document confirmation (texican2K)
Texican2K -- GM has emailed responses to my inquiries about my Corvettes. They say they can provide no information about my '80 and that they will provide a "restoration package" for my '68. I wonder what the postman will bring?!
