I am in the process of redoing the engine bay in my '69.....but have a question.
Was the area behind the front grills and front bumper (the area behind the fron marker lights) blacked out aswell? or was it left natural fiberglass?
This area was blacked out before almost anything installed, but it was not a real thorough job. I think it was intended primarily to cover the primer and body color overspray from the body paint process.
One observation I have made in looking at original cars is that the headlight buckets and linkage (but not the actuators) were in place during the paint process. Careful examination reveals body color overspray on the large aluminum link in the front of the mechanism.
I agree with Chuck, these areas would have been included in blackout, but actual paint coverage could be expected to be hit or miss and could vary from car to car depending upon who was doing the blackout at the time.
