I pulled my windshield wiper motor to clean up/glass bead/whatever. I took it apart and discovered the plastic doo-dad is broken. Excuse me if this is the wrong term. I'll try for a more technical term.
When you pull the metal cover off of the wiper motor gear, this 'thingy' is mounted on a shaft through that cover. It's made of purple plastic and is shaped somewhat like a four legged star. What does it do? I have no idea but I suspect it provides power for the washer fluid pump. The wiper impeller gear works fine and has a metal protrusion which causes the broken thingy to turn as well. I don't remember having problems with the washer fluid pump but who knows? I rarely use it.
Does anyone know whether this thingy is common to the 68 thru 82? I understand 73 has a unique 'complete assembly' for wiper motor but my wiper motor works fine, so if I can get a new thingy (or even an old unbroken thingy) it looks easy to swap.
Thanks for the info, Mike. I've been sooooo busy :nopity with my work transfer, I haven't had a chance to see Ron D for over a week and things show few signs of slowing down. sigh. I'll have to see if Ron D has such a thing. If not, there's a wrecker in the area who has a few Vettes; I might drop by, although the wrecker seems to think Vette owners should pay NOS prices for used parts (and usually you end up pulling the parts yourself).
On an unrelated note, seeing the rally wheels in silver on your signature pics has convinced me to repaint my rallys (currently painted black). I would post a picture of my Nuclear Banana (pre-Ron D) but I haven't figured out how to add images as yet (I'm not very compu-literate:conehead). It took me a week to figure out how to post from my home system (Mac based).
It's not the motor itself. Its the wiper motor cover that has the broken parts in it. Will look for you any way and see what I can come up with. Here is a picture of your car,.along with the rest of the MAC fleet. The real machine is behind the Vette...Oh mama...Hey Wayne wanna go cruisin in the the family truckster. We should slap a pic up of your Wifes Jeep, Waynes last project, did some neat updates on that one. Look Mikey, its vu ja dai :D
