How Important Is It To Use The Original Type Of Paint They Used 1968 On The Body For A Ncrs Judging On The Car ?
Is There Anyone Who Sells This Type Of Paint ??
Ann
It's great if you can find the original paint and find someone to shoot it, providing the laws in your state allow it. With the exception of the Bowling Green cars, C3s were painted with acrylic lacquer. Emissions laws now forbid the use of acrylic lacquers in some states. If that's the case for you, your only choice will be to go with acrylic enamels or the newer paints.
The NCRS realizes the old lacquers may not be available these days and will judge paint based on whether the finished appearance is similiar to that of the original acrylic lacquer.
What you want to avoid is having too perfect a paint job. Our cars were not perfect when the first owner took delivery.
Go here http://www.corvettepaintcodes.com/ Jot down the codes for Corvette Bronze. Take the codes to the automotive paint supplier of your choice. They should be able to mix your paint in the original color using the codes. They will also be able to advise whether the older lacquers are still available.
