1972 - Upper Control Arm - Inked Broadcast Code
I've been fortunate to have seen a lot of original cars over the years and I don't recall ever seeing a broadcast code for the front control arms.
Usually, broadcast codes were applied to a part or assembly to make it easier for the line workers to identify the correct part for a given application among similar appearing parts for other applications (springs, engines, differentials, etc.). The upper and lower control arms for your Corvette were the same ones used from 1968 through 1982 Corvettes... In fact they were used before 1968 as well. There was really no need to identify them with a broadcast code at the factory because there was no difference in application regardless of the Corvette being built.
If the plant stamping the control arms was stamping other arms as well, perhaps there may have been a need to place a broadcast code on them, but to be honest, I've never seen it. That's not to say it didn't happen though and if you have further information on this, I'd love to hear about it.
Nice looking car by the way!
Regards,
Thanks for the compliments ....
With any luck - should be done Sep/Oct this year. Will be taking it to Kissimmee 2008.
I remember someone saying that the upper arms in 72' had some kind of yellow ink stamp on them; something like "CM" ....
I may be way off here - just wanted to double check before I drop the body back on the frame in July.
Thanks ...
Bill
