I could use a little help. I have a 1980 stock L-48 350 with a rochester Q-Jet #17080204. Between the carb and manifold is a heat insulator it is about a 1/2 thick. What I need to know is do you still use a carb gasket here or does the heat insulator also act as a gasket? I'm hoping someone knows the answer.

My experience with mid-sixties Chevys with the brown fiber insulator was that the insulator served as the gasket. If the insulator is soft enough to be marked with a fingernail, it will deform to the surfaces on the carburetor body and the manifold, and will seal better than it would with gaskets.
