Blacked out with semi-flat black paint.
That part of the surround panel between the two front fenders and on top of the front edge of the plenum/wiper door compartment is also blacked out; it varys widely, but on many cars, the black out ends right where the the large radius starts at each rear corner of hood opening. This line where the black out ends IS NOT a sharp masked line, but is a little fuzzy, like a cardboard mask was used and some overspray migrated under the mask.
