Guys...need your help! What year did the removable window tray go from being a relatively flat piece to a "form fit" tray??? I've seen both and want to be sure of what I'm getting!
Thanks,
Mike
Mike, there are several different versions of the tray in the early years, and it takes a person experienced in all the year classes to sort them out. For example, I believe 68 had a one-year only tray with spring-loaded hinges that held the tray in the up position. By 70, the hinges are just simple sheet metal hinges with no springs.
Your use of the term "form-fit" is a little confusing. The early trays themselves are made of a molded fiber board type material that was black flocked up through 71. They have latches and clips that retain the rear window in position. In 72, they were "molded" of black plastic material with deep substantial ribbing for strength. In 73, the removeable rear window and storage tray were discontinued.
