Default 69 black interior questions

For shifter and gauge cluster console plates, which paint to match the original: Krylon semi-flat or semi-gloss or other brand?

Who makes the best dyes for leather seats? for the fiberglass interior body panels? Are they different dyes?

Since the leather is old and dry, should I condition it first or dye it and then condition it?

As always, thx for the replies! :flag

Mark, I've used the Krylon Satin #7777 for the center gauge bezel, steering column, etc. It turned out well, in my opinion. Lay it on VERY lightly, just barely dusting on many light coats. I found that it likes to mottle if you spray it the least bit heavily.

I used the standard vinyl dye from Zip for my interior stuff, but not the seats. I wiped all the panels down very thoroughly with Prep-Sol and had no problems with adhesion.

There is a paint available from most of the Corvette shops called "Black Satin" specifically formulated to be sprayed over chrome and it works very well on door handles and consoles, the color and sheen are spot on in my opinion.

Al Knoch sells quarts of color correct dyes for all Corvettes and it is excellent.

Condition AFTER dying, most conditioners leave some form of oil residue intentionally

Hard parts are painted, not dyed. It should be reasonably easy for you to tell a vinyl part from a fiberglass or metal part.

Seat covers do not do well dyed. There is too much flexing. Most dyes are vinyl dyes so leather is not easily done.
