I have a '68 with what I believe is the original 7" wheels - no resto or repaint. The backs are indeed black, but if you have the wheels out in bright sunlight it looks like there is a hint of a 'metallic' look to the black paint on the backs. Certainly not a metallic like one would see on body surface paint, but it's also not a 'solid' black paint. Just my observation and I am by no means any sort of an expert.
Meant to add that there is silver overspray on the back, but it really isn't all that much - slight amount on the back side of the 'slots'.
On 68 and 69's, I've been told the argent silver is some kind of a
argent silver-green?? Has anyone noticed a greenish mist hue on
these years or is this guy just peering through old alge? BTW, I've
only this one time.
ooops, alge??? guess I need spell checker :bb
Is that 70's tint a judged item? If so, I'm way
over my head in this resto project. Perhaps I
should reevaluate my goal.
Yes, it is judged, but I believe the correct tint paint is available. At least it used to be; check Quanta Products.

Horsefeathers. :D Isn't it exciting to learn all this interesting information about old Corvettes? With this stuff, you can be the life of any party...impress your family, make new friends!
You didn't think this restoration stuff was going to be easy did you? If it was easy, anybody could do it! Don't worry, if you need help, we'll help you all we can. Of course, we don't make any promises about the accuracy of information, and take no responsibility for judging field disappointments. :jester
Oh don't get the wrong impression I'm crying about how hard it is :nopity
The knowledge is great, it's more a matter of logistics, shipping/size/weight/
hazmat and waiting 45-120 days to hopefully get a correct order, perform
the work and repeat for next stage. I don't have the room for a hanger queen.
But honestly, wife won't let me buy another Harley till "her" car is on the road
and it's just 8 more months when those 100th anniv. bikes hit the floor.
So many toys, so little time.
Regarding the "argent silver-green" color, it was my understanding that all 68's, all 69's , and some 70's up to a particular SN used this "greenish tint" color. From some point in 70 and upward, the "plain old" argent silver was used. Don't know if the 67 wheels should be the argent silver-green, or the argent silver. Chuck
Mr. Gongloff, you are absolutely correct. I have cleaned the algae from my glasses, and I have made a New Year's resolution...no more posting hip shots on stuff I don't know for sure, or even things I think I know for sure.
