Default Tank sticker removal

Can anyone suggest a good way to remove a tank sticker without damaging it?
If not does it make sense to replace the orig tank and leave the sticker on for the future?
T he car is a 69 vert base eng. 4 speed with no special options but very orig. and numbres all match.
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, how much is remaining? Is it legible? It can be removed, but slowly and carefully. The paper is very fragile. Is there a "blob" of glue holding it on at one point? If so, you can use a razor blade and carefully cut thru the glue.

It is complete and in very good shape all info is very clear and easy to read. It was very dusty and I was afraid it wouldn't clean off, but the dust and dirt came off fairly easy. It has a 3" diameter blob of glue in the center that is very thin and is sticking very good. the paper is very fragile but not brittle. I will take some pictures tomarrow and I will try to post them if i can figure out how.
Thanks
Jeff

It really depends on the glue that is still remaining and how much was originally put on.
If there is only a little glue, typically, I can take a fresh razor blade and cut the glue between the glue and the tank in a saw like method, without damaging the sticker at all. Other times the glue is so abundant that it makes sense to cut the entire metal around the sticker. This will destroy the tank but will do the least amount of damage to the sticker. Cut it with metal shears, not a cut of disk (sparks, potential kaboom).

Or just save the whole tank, but the tank will be a burden to store and keep track of.
Good luck.
