Default '58 package tray

The NCRS technical guide for 58 to 60 says '58 does not have a package tray. I am assuming they are refering to the one under the grab bar on the right side of the dash. So, my '58, built January 58, has one and it sure looks like an original factory intallation to me. Is it possible it came like that and the book is incorrect?

Lee -

The tray was added somewhere along the line - 58's had no tray - started in '59.

Hmmmm. Thanks John. Wonder if I should take it off? I'll bet it leaves holes.

It will leave holes. There are three screws at the bottom of the tray that go through the curved piece that covers the heater. You can fill the holes pretty easily. Wonder if that is the one I put in a 58 years ago? Actually, unless you are getting the car judged, the package tray is pretty handy. I'd leave it alone. :D
