We are on to the body.....everything that could be removed from the body is now in paint. The body was in excellent shape, although sanding is always fun...not!

The dash, instruments and all that up there are in terrific shape. However, we did remove all the moulding as well as weatherstripping to be accomplish what you suggested. In addition we removed all the inside mouldings ;since the finish on all those parts was wrong; it was glossy instead of mat.
No, it was always red. What you are seeing is the previous primer. The car was completely stripped down to bare fiberglass about 10 years ago. At that time it was painted and then clearcoated, unfortunately.
Our objective was to first remove all the clear, then see how thick each previous coat of primer and paint was and also how each layer was adhering to each other. As it turned out, luckily, the previous paint was extremely thin, plus there were absolutely no bubbles, cracks or flakes anywhere. To be honest if it was not cleared I never would have touched it.
