Yeah it IS kind of 'crack in the wall'...I don't recall the details, but somewhere in the American military past they lost a large number of troops in battle under foreign (I think maybe British) command, and since then it's been an almost iron-clad policy that US Forces will not serve in combat under foreign command. Something like their navy ships all being 'dry'. That one, I believe, dates back to either the American Revolution or the War of 1812, when an American ship (or fleet) lost a naval enagagement, owing at least in part, to the drunkenness of the crew...
