WILL A PRODUCT THAT "PROTECTS" LIKE ENDURANCE OR ARMORAL HURT THE "RED" IN THE STRIPE? i HAVE BEEN TOLD TO USE JUST SOAP & WATER, THAT THE OTHER PRODUCTS WILL IN SOME WAY HARM THE RED AND DISCOLOR IT OVER THE YEARS? ANYONE HAVE A COMMENT OR IDEA, BETTER YET WHAT DO YOU REDLINERS USE? THANKS
Ernie, I think you have been given good advice...use only soap and water with a stiff bristle tire brush. This information is not specific for red line tires, but for all tires in general. After a few washings, I like to use an SOS pad on each tire or a pair of tires to keep the blacks black and the colors bright. :D
Wet the tire down with soap solution and then scrub it good with the brush to get all the loose dirt off. Then, dip a fresh SOS pad in the soap solution, and use it to scrub the entire sidewall, especially the stripes, letters, etc., and don't neglect that hard to get part next to the pavement. If your tires are pretty clean, you can clean two tires with one SOS pad.
Fergit about those tire dressings that Pepboys sells to make your tires shine. Besides the fact that real tires don't shine, that stuff leaves a brown residue on the sidewall that will have to be scrubbed off after the tires quit shining. I hate that crap. It works for the lazy guy the first time or two, but after that your tires begin to look grungy with just a soap and water cleaning.
BTW, that's a nice looking 68 you have there.

I can't stand shiny "wet-look" tires either (ever see a "shiny" new tire? :) ), but there's finally a tire dressing that has a satin appearance, lasts a couple of months, and won't turn brown. I tried the new Meguiar's "Endurance" satin finish dressing on my Z/28 last August, and it does a great job - looks like a real tire, stays clean, doesn't discolor. Contoured sponge applicator comes with it, no mess, no spray to screw up your wheels/trim. Works for me.
