Default How can I id my engine?

Hi guys. I recently bought a 1987 El Camino which has a Corvette engine in it. Could someone tell me how to identify what engine it is? Thanks for the help.

Welcome aboard, kaz1961.

If the engine is an original Corvette engine (ie: the seller wasn't blowing smoke up yer hoop) there should be an engine block 'stamp pad' which will be bare metal and have a series of numbers stamped on it. From these numbers, you can determine what year & model your engine is. There are a number of other methods as well, which I'm sure others on this Forum can relate to you, but this is one of the easiest. If you get the numbers and post them, I'm sure someone will check the references on your behalf and tell you what you have.

Look at this area of your engine on the front of the passenger side.

Post the numbers that are stamped into this pad and we will decipher for you.
