Growing up in Dallas a local rock radio station used to put on an annual event called the Texas Jam at the Cotton Bowl. It was always right before the Texas State Fair in Sept. It was mainly comprised of local bands, up and coming talent, that sort of thing. It was an all day Saturday jam that lasted into the night. Well, in the early 80's I went to one of the best of all time. It included such little known talent as Edgar Winters, Stevie Ray Vaughn, ZZ Top, Ronnie James Dio and the headliner was a no-name band with a killer lead guitarist...Eddie Van Halen.
Patrick,..right on!!,..all good ones and definitely truth in those lines and I can really relate as I was a youngster 20 in '72,..but just as Bob Seger puts it,.."I'm older now but I'm still running against the wind" or to put another way,..Age is just a state of mind,.just don't ask me what state I'm in!!!:smash: :chevy
Hi Tom, I think VH's first album was '78 or '79. When they played at the jam them and ZZ were the headliners...VH was big, but not as bis they were a few years later. They also have about twenty or so 'no name' locals playing in area bars that play the Jam....usually the worst in the morning and the names kept on getting bigger and better as the evening wore on. They don't even play the Jam anymore...it used to be all the proceeds went to charity and the bands would donate their time...obviously that doesn't happen much anymore.
Stevie Ray and Edgar Winters were there every year.
