Default 1966 Winshield Washer filter screen

Is the filter inside the windshield washer bottle of a 66 plastic with a metal filter screen or all plastic or something else. I need to purchase one for the car.

thank you -- john lolli

John, I am no expert on mid-years, but the filter screens of that era were made of plastic with a brass screen molded in the suction opening. Have you tried searching the vendors? I expect that piece has been reproduced.

Unfortunately I dont remember the answer to that question, but did see an NCRS judge deduct for the incorrect screen in the wash bottle - Carlisle a few years ago.

Thanks all for the reply. The part is reproduced with the brass screen. The challenge is that it is $15.00 as opposed to $2.50 for the all plastic. That is the reason I am trying to find out if the 1966 screen had the brass screen.

again thanks for the replies.

John, without a midyear restorer telling you that the screen was definitely brass, you are still left with a calculated bet.

There are several reasons I believe it was brass: (1) I did not begin to see fine mesh plastic screen used in automotive applications until the middle to late seventies, and (2) it is no accident that the brass screen is priced higher...that is what most people want, and the demand is higher for the restoration part.

I would go with the brass. Besides, shipping on the dang thing is going to be half the difference between the two anyway. My opinion is that the plastic screen is a functional replacement.

I think I'd order one of each. The cost of shipping will be the same for two parts as for one and, for the extra $2.50, you've covered all bases. I'm betting the brass screen is correct as well- for all the same reasons.

Hey, Chuck- we agree on something!
