Is there any way to get the Factory Drawings of a specific part???
Namely the hinge on the 82 collector edition rear hatch. everybody has the problem of the hinges stretching, and then the hatch glass will not seal when closed.
I have heard of people making shims to reposition the closed window so it will seal, but you take the chance of stretching the hinges till they break, or crack.
And other's remove them and resqueeze them back to the almost original shape, you can see where this will end up...ever hear of metal fatigue???
I would like to get my hands on the mech. drawings of this part, and fabricate my own hinges...
BTW. there is no aftermarket parts for the rear hatch
Any ideas ???
Engineering drawings are generally subject to both Patent restrictions and copyright infringement
They are generally not made publicly available by the companies

I'm a sort-a-hack machinist. that means I use a really big hammer...:smash: :smash:
The best I can call myself is Damned Handy. That's what the wifey says whenever I fix something around the house :D
What I really need then is the exact (almost really close ) measurement of the distance between the pivot points...before they are all stretched out...
Well, DD, to quote the poet low-rent Red Green "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy." or, in your case, Damned Handy.
If I were in yer situation, I think I'd rework the existing hinges (despite the metal fatigue) so they make the glass fit and then take your exact measurements- along with a bunch of pictures, tracings, whatever you need so you can replicate the hinge in yer own time. It's not going to be exact as an engineering drawing but it'll get you where you want to go and the repaired hinges will last long enough to keep you mobile while you're fabricating new ones.
If you do decide to make new hinges, perhaps you should consider making 10 sets instead of one. Since our friends at Chevrolet decided not to exploit this aftermarket, perhaps you can?

That's exactly what I was thinking. And I won't be out to make a profit, just cover the cost of making each set...
