Default Re: Decked block - (Mac)

I can't get over how many misconceptions I've had shattered since I started posting to the Forum. Knowledge, they say, must be shared to be useful. This bit of common wisdom rings true.
Same goes for me. It is easy to understand now, why numbers matching is really not a big deal. It seems that Flight judging criteria is based on ones ability to return a car to its original glory. It does not appear that they are looking for exact reproductions of what the car was, but accurate attention to detail and as close to exact reproduction as possible.

This makes me reconsider how mine will ultimately be restored. I have never been after a frame-off project (too much else to spend money on) and judging is not the goal. The intent was to retsore the car, frame-on to as close to original as possible. The originality exceptions include Flowmaster mufflers, K&N filter, a slightly wider tire, and urethane busings. My thought (ANY IDEAS) was to keep the car original with a few upgrades to enhance the driving experience of the car without modifing the body, engine, drivetrain.

As a note, I have to say that I am pretty impressed with this forum and the people responding. The education is great.

In my opinion what they should have done is have zero points for the deck pad. Just give or take points for casting numbers and date codes. This would have saved some blocks from being decked and ruining the chance of reuniting the actual original block to its original vehicle. When you deck a block you distroy its history. What fun people would have swapping motors in the car show parking lot and driving home with their original engines :D
