Default C1 suspension rebuild problem

I'm doing a complete overhaul/the upper A-frames will not drop freeley, they are OK until I torque the end caps. They are centered and the shafts are protruding a fraction under 1 1/8 inch, like a 1/16th under, but are tight. I fugure if I expand the distance between the shaft nuts a touch, this would eliminate the binding. Anyone kow the exact distance between the inside of the nut holes?

Have you posted on the C1 Forum? Some suspension final torques are applied with the car on it's wheels and at ride height.

The service manual indicates for the arm to free fall when installed before connecting the outer/cam point. I'm thinking the a arrm is squezed together too tight to begin with. Hoping for further advice. Thanks

Have you greased the bushings? All of the C1 upper and lower control arm bushings are metal-on-metal, and will bind up without lots of chassis grease in the threads; that's why all 22 fittings need greasing every 1000 miles (or more frequently).

I did apply a small ampont upon assy, but will shoot them full first before I disassemble. I have 3 spare upper a arms they each varry in width at theinside of he bushing holes. I noticed to complete the torque the a arm began to collapse slightly, like 1/16- 1/8 inch, this is when they bind. When I assembled I threded both and they were free then tightened the rear one to torque, still free, is there a sequence or a manner in wich the bushings should be inserted? Appreciate any help. thanks Mark

Yes - follow the instructions in the ST-12 manual to the letter and you should be in good shape.
