Yep, I removed the plastic window from the radio face and the pointer was easily accessible. I used the same paint as on my gauge needles. Looks really good after one coat of paint!
I have a 64 coupe, but 67 should not be much different.
Does your radio look like this one? I had mine apart yesterday for the exact same reason but once I got the cover off I decided against it. Trying to get the paint on the backside of the pointer with it in place did not seem feasble. I figured I'd better wait till I had the time to completely disassemble the radio in order to get a good shoot at the pointer.
Looks familiar, although I have Delco AM/FM radio. I didn´t paint the backside of the pointer, just masked the radio face with some paper and carefully applied a thin coat of paint to the needle. As I mentioned, it looks really good. I wouldn´t bother trying to remove the needle, just be careful and try not to break it.
When there are spots I need a little dab of paint, I often paint onto a paper plate, and then use a little brush from the craft shop to dip into the paint. It saves getting overspray all over. But sometimes the finish is glossier than spraying the paint, but sometimes if you paint real thin you can breathe heavy on it to raise the humidity and it'll dull down as it dries. I've never tried painting any radio components, but I have other little piddly things here & there. :jester: Your mileage may vary. :) ~Juliet
Jim, If you take a little lacquer thinner and wipe the back side of the pointer, the old paint will come right off. I then wrap masking tape around the front and side of the pointer, and spray the rear with flourescent orange or international orange if you can find it. The flourescent orange is not a dead match but is even and consistent, and most people would never be able to tell the difference.

Thanks to all !!!
I pulled the radio today and removed the dial pointer. Now I just have to find the correct color paint. I'm hoping flourescent orange will match.

Jim, International orange is the perfect color match, but flourescent orange will get pretty close. You were wise to remove the pointer and repaint from the rear, Painting from the front does not allow the light to shine through the plastic and bounce back from the orange paint. This makes the pointer seem to glow in the dark, and painting from the front just will not accomplish this.

Just a tip a little to late by the sounds of it. I use Q-tips on things like this and dab the paint on to the part. One can usually get a good finish doing it this way but dont play with the paint to long or the Q tip will become one with the paint :)
To All:
Finally got around to painting the dial. I couldn't find internationl orange and flourescent orange didn't have enough red in it. I found that Testors Model Master Flourescent Red-Orange #28913 is a perfect match. The dial was easy to remove, held in by one little clip. A little lacquer thinner took the old paint right off and I was able to paint the back in one swipe with a really tiny paint brush.
Too hot to put it back together today, gonna be 100 here in South Jersey. Thanks to all for the good advice!!!
