I was out for a ride, enjoying the sunshine with the t-tops off, listening to my favorite music (the sounds of an L82 humming) when I saw a C5 convertible in the distance.
Having read all the threads about these uneducated C5 owners who don't 'wave' and the various explanations offered for this, I wasn't prepared for what happened...... he waved first! I waved back and, to cap it off, when we got close, he stuck his hand out and gave me a big 'thumbs up' and a grin! Needless to say, I grinned and waved again. In fact, I kept grinning for a while. :D
So was this an aberration? A complete fluke?? Whatcha think??? :seeya
Around here in high elevation country, far away from fishing ponds, I always wave when driving my C-5, and always get a wave in return, except....
The ones around here that don't wave (have never waved) are the women. I think, they think if they wave to you, you will get the impression they are promiscuous! :yesnod:
Out on contry roads here in Central Texas everybody waves at everybody!
I am not talking about just Corvettes, everybody waves at everybody! They are more animated about it if they actually know you but the least you can expect is a lift of the fingers from the wheel in an open palm jesture. Even the Sherriff Deputies wave, and failure to return a wave instantly marks you as a city dweller who doesn't have the time to be civil!

John, I am very familiar with that kind of wave as I was born & raised in a rural community.
We waved at each other on the road, we waved as we drove past and saw a neighbour in their yard, we waved at airplanes passing overhead (just in case).
In fact, there's a joke about it- how do you get a one-armed Newfy (native of Newfoundland) out of a tree? Wave at him. :seeya
You know Mac, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that on lonely old country roads nobody wants to feel like they would be left to the buzzards if they broke down. You are nice to everyone because you may have to rely on that person to come to your aid. You simply cannot work on tuning your car on rural Central Texas roads, because every time you stop and raise the hood to adjust timing or carb, at least one person will stop to render aid!

Yup. My experience is the same. In fact, while visiting down home, my wife and I went for a walk. No less than five cars stopped to say 'Hi!' and asked if we needed a ride. Eventually, my wife (a city girl) asked me if this was normal behaviour. I said it would pass if we walked for a couple days- folks would figure out we were exercising and would go back to waving! :seeya

I hope that doesn't apply to women in C3s and C4s because if so.... Oooohwwwwwhhhhiiiiiiieeeeeee! :jester: I always wave! :D
It is like anything else, you have to take the good with the bad. I was at the local cruise night with my factory original 69L88 coupe and when I arrived all the C5 guys looked at my car from a distance but not one of them came up to talk to me. BTW I went over to check their cars out and complimented them but I found it amusing that no one commented on my car. Of course all of the diehard Corvette lovers were very appreciative that I brought it out which made it worth while.

And so Zora magically appeared out of the clouds at that very cruise night, and the C5 guys that you referred to above said, "Who's that old guy?"
