Horns do not work.
Found one good and one not.
Replaced relay.
Do you need both functional so they work. They are powered by same wire.
No power to horn when I press horn button.
Hows does button come off stering column?? Want to check contact.
The horn circuit is rather simple. You have power running to one leg of the relay and one ground. If you ground the (usually black) wire this throws the relay and allows power to go to the horns via the green wire. The horns are self grounding through their mounting. So you only need one to work. Do some simple test to isolate the problem. Pust the button. Do you hear a click? If so the relay is probably working. If you do not. go to the relay and ground the black wire and listen for the click. If you get the click and power to the green wire, the problem is from there to the button. the button simply is a ground circuit. Remove the button. Just pry up on it. It will pop off. Look down below the horn contact and you will see a little plunger. Use a screwdriver and short it to ground. You should hear the click. If so you have a bad contact, which is usually the problem anyway. Most often the little plastic rivits are broken. You can repair with nylon screws and nuts or buy a new contact.
Excellent answer by Wombvette. I'll add my experience. Virtually EVERY time I've had trouble with a horn, or helped somebody else with a horn problem, it's been in the column, either the horn button, plunger/contact, or in the wiring within the column. Hope this helps. Chuck
Thanks Chuck I order repair kit for column and when it gets here I will open and replace parts to see if that is it. All fingers point to this location.
Thanks again for thr reply.
