Still NOTHING done at the Snakehead pond in Crofton, MD. They're planning first to put a plant poison in the pond, and then to put the "fish" poison in later, after the vegitation is killed off. Heard that the DNR is "negotiating", (with attorneys) with the "owners" of the infamous pond. Apparently the pond owners are worried about liability if/when their pond is poisoned. Ah, the wonders of our legal system. The governement wants to poison the pond, and the owners are worried about liability in case something happens. :) Gotta love it. Meantime, I believe the little fish are still breeding. Chuck
The screw-up over this little ol' pond reminds me of the way man's gene pool is deteriorating very quickly. If only I can finish my body-off before the snakeheads take over completely. :D
It seems to me that someone should look at the 'big picture' and take action.
If I was the pond owner, I wouldn't be moaning about liability- I'd be hollering for the Powers That Be to get off their collective duffs and get killin' snakeheads.
This is Maryland, guys, the Capital of PC. Nothing gets done without a committee "studying" the problem. How many months has this been dragging on? Gotta love it. I'll bet an "injunction" is filed before the pond is poisoned so the problem can be further studied, and an "environmental impact" statement can be formulated. ;) Chuck
Mac and John. You've got to realize that we have more attorneys per capita that probably anywhere in the USA. Although Washington, DC is a separate "District", it's really in Maryland (on our side of the Potomac River...not Virginia's). Legalism's abound here. I'll bet this drags on for several more months.
The latest thing around here are ominous "CODE RED OZONE DAY" radio public service announcements. Deep voiced announcers on the radio advise us not to gas up our cars till after sunset. Another tells us "Don't cut the grass, It's a "CODE RED OZONE DAY"....... The most ridiculous??? The scene is in a beauty parlor. "Lets re-do that nail polish, Madge".... Oh, no, you have to use nail polish remover....It's a "CODE RED OZONE DAY". You're right Madge, so sorry....AND, we won't use any hair spray when your hair is done....after all, it's a "CODE RED OZONE DAY". Strange, but true. Chuck

"Ladies and gentlemen in the State of Maryland, wear sunscreen. The benefits of sunscreen have been scientifically proven, unlike the rest of my advice....."
Chuck, at work when entering the underground garage, there is a sign that says......"warning-today is a code red day". In addition, it is a commonplace joke that when exiting an elevator, when there are other people on, that you exit by saying "have a nice code red day"!
The environuts are pushing to make washing your car in your own driveway illegal in Toronto.
Next, it'll be illegal to fart......methane pollution.
Hey '67, there is a bill proposal down in Montgomery County, before the County Council, that will prohibit anyone from smoking in their own homes, if it leaks out the windows and bothers your next door neighbor!
WOW this is amazing...
in Arizona, the worst that I have heard about is the "NO BURN DAYS" for those with fireplaces...And go figure, it only happens during the winter... :smash:
The Red Ozone hit Texas last week--actually we were on a Purple Alert last Friday. I guess that is worse than a Code Red day. seems llike every place is gettting into the act. We now have to have our vehicles smog checked beginning this year in Dallas, Denton and Collin counties. Ain't it grand!!! :bs
