Barry, I have no idea what year Corvette you are talking about, or even it it IS a Corvette, but if your carpet isn't staying in place, there is only one solution that I know of...GLUE IT!!!

Disassemble as necessary to apply 3M adhesive (I think they have an extra heavy duty version at Home Depot). Follow the instructions.

You might want to post the year and the specifics of the problem...there may be some special quirks for your year that can be fixed without resorting to adhesive.

Chuck,
It is an 81.
Where the top of the carpet pad meets the console tunnel at the shift console.... as if it is too short and it keeps going in and out of the shifter plate

Barry,

I don't know if an 81 is the same, but our 78 had the same problem. It really wasn't the carpet itself, but rather the masonite (hardboard) side panel to which the carpet is glued. This hardboard is supposed to fit into a shallow 'groove' on the underside outside edge of the console trim plate, and the carpet should butt against the edge of the console. If the backing board is showing, you have two options: remove the carpet/board and fill the screw holes in the board so that you can re-install and make newer holes in a better location (to hold the board in the grooce under the console), or, make/buy new backing boards (they're easy to cut from new masonite or can be bought for about $15 (US) from trim suppliers). Install the board, holding it in place in the groove and drill holes for the screws. Then remove the board, glue on the carpet and re-install the whole assembly. Bear in mind, this trim was NOT one of the General's better ideas. It's subject to chafing by drivers' legs and possibly hips, etc, which will eventually move it down and out of place again. Good luck!
