Hey Jer, Take a look at the bid history, there were two people bidding incredibly high numbers for it! Even if he only got the next low bid it will still astounding!!!!
I am friends with the third highest bidder who was e mailed by the seller, don't know who number two is / was or what happened to him. I thought crap like this wasn't supposed to happen with all the E Bay "safegards" :jester
jer
Yep, Jer, looks like the seller had not one, but two "friends", to help the bidding along. He wouldn't have emailed the third highest bidder unless he didn't have a legitimate bid. Appears his "friends" must have gotten a little too enthusiastic, and got too far out in front of the real money.
I paid $10 for my "beautiful" wrinkle-free reproduction. :D
Now, if I could just find my original (I think it's at my ex-wife's place - which means it's actually been moved to the landfill as soon as she ran across it. :cry )
I trust you've met Marshall Sangerhausen (nickname Herr Doktor). He's carrying the twin colts around these here parts, and runs a tidy town......but we like him anyways. ;)
I must admit I never considered the aspect of a "second friend bidder"
That's providing the bidder hasn't created more than one persona. He could be bidding against himself. It's not that difficult to do; unethical as hell but since when did that stop anyone? :nonod:
As a matter of personal policy, I will never buy an item where another higher bidder has backed out. Maybe I will miss a bargain here and there but I just refuse to take part in a false auction. It's just too easy for someone to flush out your top bid, then turn around and offer ito you at your top bid, while in a true honest auction you would have purchased the item for much less. MJ

I would think as a minimum effort to prevent fraud, ebay would not accept bids from the sellers' IP address, just like you can't have two or more "handles" on Corvette Forum. But, having more than one computer isn't that unusual anymore. (Add a new Dell or replace your old PC...we need to get the economy moving again. :D :D )

Chuck, when I got my new PC a few months ago, I had two handles here at the CF. One was on dial up, the other on the high speed cable. Since I didn't want to lose 900 posts, I asked Troy to delete my old handle and transfer my posts to FXT. :D

Were you using both services on the same computer? Hmmmm...Well, that would eliminate the IP address as the discriminator in CF's case. I know that CF can tell what kind of ISP you have from your posts; maybe that's what they use. I have never tried using an "alter ego" handle, but I can't believe CF would have us Bozos on the "honor system". :D :D
If you were using dial up on the old computer, and cable on the new, I could see how that would work because the two computers have different unique identities. Those two computers could be in different states and the CF server wouldn't know the difference.
Welcome to the board and beware Herr Doktor aus El Paso! :D
Yah, yah, Velcom zu der FCR, Herr Blitzen.
