John, that reminds me when I paid $50 for a NOS 56-57 cigarette lighter, still in the box, at Carlisle about 10 years ago. Got home, had a couple brews and tried it out several times. It heated up OK and then popped out, no problem.
So then I tried doing a stress test on the electrical system. Started up the car, backed out into the driveway, turned on the wipers, heater fan, the Wonderbar, had the headlights on high beam, and pushed in the lighter.
Kept an eye on the amp gauge, and everything seemed OK, so I pulled the car back into the garage, shut it off and hit the sack for the night. What I didn't realize was that the lighter never popped out on that last try, and continued to heat up after I left the garage.
The next morning I got into the car and the stainless **** on the lighter was pointing down toward the floor. The overheated lighter had melted the black plastic and the **** sagged down, but finally popped out and it cooled that way. Never even blew a fuse. Needless to say, I was severely P.O.ed!!!!! :cry
The seller never even thought he had anything either. He started the auction for $4.00 and no reserve. I cant see spending a CHUNK of money like that on 2 dust caps that really will never even be seen!!

And to think some of you were poking fun at me for spending a few minutes with a small hammer and a trailer ball, pounding the dents out of my dust caps. Why, those things are like gold! Maybe I should..... naw!! I'll leave them where they are, hidden away, gaining in value.... :D
Patrick, Talk about pissed. I was going to put my correct D-308 distributor cap on my car this morning for the regionals in Waco this month, and when I opened the cabinet, It fell to the concrete 5 feet below!! The cap did not survive the fall and now I have to scrounge up another. It is truly a bitch to have $100 in a cap that gets destroyed before it is ever used!
