Default re-finishing interior?

I posted this in general discussion but thought that posting it here would be better....anyways i just wanted to know if anyone has already paint the console, or dash covers on their c4's or anything from the interior that was made in plastic. The thing is the interior isn't new butit isn't old looking either, it has seom scratches and swirls. Is there a way i can just paint over it and makeit look new again, without having to buy actual new parts. I'm sure someone will beable to help me, thanx ! :)

I'm no expert, especially on C4s but in general, the interior parts can be 'painted' with a dye.

Basically, you have to clean everything up and remove any trace of oil or silicon (boy, will you regret that ArmorAll you sprayed on two years ago!!) then wash the surface with a prep and finally spray on the colour matched dye.

This will hide but not remove scratches or gouges but there are plastic repair kits which can be used before dyeing to repair everything up to and including holes (like, where you had the mount for your CB mike or where the guy before you mounted his cellphone) but a certain level of expertise is required to make those flaws vanish.

what exactly do I have to do to take off oil/silicon that may be on? And also what exactly is a prep? I'm no expert but i'm pretty sure i'll be able to paint it and make it look like new, well the only way to find out would be to give it a shot. thanx for the info, this site has always been helpful !

Normal soap and degreasers will not remove silicone which is one of the products in ArmorAll and most similar products. PPG and SEM both sell products which help to remove silicone as well as surface preparation solutions (kinda smells like vinegar) which leave the vinyl surface ready to be painted with the dye which is a lacquer paint. Most of the automotive paint manufacturers have some sort of products to address this situation.

SEM also makes products to repair cracks, scratches and holes in the plastic as well. I tried to find their website but all I could find were different aftermarket suppliers who sell the products.

This stuff isn't cheap but it'll make the difference between having a lasting and uniform interior colour and having tons of problems. Let's face it- we've all heard how surface preparation makes the difference between a show-car paint job and a street paint job? Well, with interiors, it's even more true. If there is silicone on the surface, it'll cause fisheyes in the short term. In the long term, the dye will slough off.

The stuff used to clean before you paint is a solvent based cleaner. You usually have to buy it at a paint store, but I have seen it at autozone. :yesnod: :seeya
