lift update
I finally recieved my 4 post lift yesterday and after about 3 hours of assembly, it is up and running!! I am like a kid in the candy store, I stayed out in the shop and just ran the car up and down! This is going to make working on the underside of the car a pleasure instead of a chore. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. The lift is a quality piece of equipment and I expect to see many years of service from it. Thanks to all for advice and support. I should have done this years ago!

Working and cleaning will never be the same. Remember to check the lift connections after a few ups and downs and always check the locks before getting under it. I do it all the time, good habit to get into. My wife says all I need is a toilet and bed and I can live in my garage. :cheers: Dick

I bought a 4 post lift from Direct Lift They were $600-$1000 less than the others that I was looking at, and I could not tell the difference! I found out that they offer a special at car shows where they throw in the casters, drip trays,and jack bridge for the same price ($1995) and got them to sell it to me for the show price!

Great product and good people to deal with! I hate to sound like an ad for them, but I was sure pleased with the entire process, except for missing the first delivery, which was my fault, not theirs.

When I put my 56 on the lift I can't raise it to the top lock position without the hardtop coming into contact with my ceiling. To be on the safe side (during a brain fade) I installed a 1" I.D. X 5" long piece of heavy wall gal. pipe to the hyd. cyl. shaft so it would decrease the effective stroke by 5".

I appreciate it , but different design and different supplier. I had been watching that thread unfold and wouldn't even consider that vendor after the way they treated him! To top it off they get almost $1400 more for that lift!

That's great! Didn't want to see something like that happen again...I crindge everytime I look at the pics....not to mention ensueing conversations. Two things you need out in the garage (beside a bed): We have a T.V. out there already, been redoing the motor so I can watch my soaps(during the week) while I clean parts and he gets to see the races on Sunday out there. I live out there when the kid is at school....too busy working on the vett to get house work done! Rather be out there than doing the housely chores! 2nd thing is: A well stocked fridge...seems like it becomes a popular place to stop when the neighbors are coming home from work....they stop to see how it's going with the engine, have a beer and then go home. It's nice to have people by and not have to stop working, they can help or not....as long as it doesn't take me away from working on the car.....Good luck and have fun!

Can't say enough good things about the people at direct lift, good bunch of people to deal with. The only thing that is not finished yet is the high lift kit for the door. The factory was supposed to ship my parts over 3 weeks ago, and still no parts. This will move my door to within 4" of the 11' ceiling and I will be able to raise the door completely up even with the car at full lift.

Did you get the steel or aluminum ramps? I'm still debating the extra $200 for the lightweight aluminum.

Joe, I have the Superior lift that is essentially identical to this lift. If you plan to use the lift fairly often, spring for the aluminum ramps. Even though they are lighter, they are still quite bulky and cumbersome to move around. I can't imagine how much more difficult it would be to deal with the 50+ lb steel ramps. In a year you'll have forgotten about the $200 you saved as you curse the heavy steel ramp that fell on your toe :D

I would spend the extra money on the aluminum ramps! You will find it to be the best money you ever spent. They supplied both the steel and aluminum ramps with mine, and I cuss the steel ones every time I have to move them.
I don't know why I have not disposed of them by now, but I guess that I am just waiting for a welding project that I can use them on! The lift has been trrouble free, and I would reccomend these guys without reservation.
It has changed my way of working around the shop, and I am already looking to get another. I moved it over to my main garage last month to store the 60 on while I work on a new 59 project in the shop, and I already miss having it over in the shop!

Thanks Shannon. If the steel ramps are 50 pounds, I definitely don't want them. I don't think my garage is deep enough to keep them on with the garage door closed, so I'll probably be removing them often.
What do you think of the castors? I have a 2 car garage, but the lift will only fit on one side because of a raised staircase landing on the other side (the car fits under it, but the lift won't). Do you still think they'll be useful? If I had to move the lift forward and/or back 1 or 2 feet, could I do it without the castors or a group of big guys? It looks pretty darn heavy. Thanks!

Joe, If you are getting the show special, you should be getting the casters, and the drip trays thrown in for free! The lift would be very hard to move without the casters as it weighs about 1800 lbs. With the casters, I can move the lift by myself if it is empty and with one helper if the car is on it. The only thing to keep in mind is that it will not roll out of a standard 7' door as it will be a couple of inches too tall. If you have a 8' high door it roll in and out with ease!
