Exhaust manifold question
On the 1981 and 1982 Vettes, they came with a tubular exhaust header.
Did Chevrolet put a exhaust gasket between the header and the cylinder head during assembly?
I know you don't need exhaust gaskets with the cast iron manifolds, but what about these tube types? I know aftermarket headers leak big time if you don't use gaskets, and these are pretty close in design.
I have headers on my 74 with no gaskets for 3 years with no leaks. I just used high temp silcone sealent. I dont believe that 80-81 had tube headers, but some one else will have to tell you for sure.

Hey, BSeery, I'm kinda surprised one of the authoritative voices (ie: JohnZ or SWCDuke) hasn't stepped up to the bat on this one.
I thought the factory headers used metal gaskets to prevent leaks as the exhaust flange isn't as sturdy as to good ol' ram horns but I've never had one of that vintage.
Desertdawg, what does your car have? It's original, isn't it???
This topic is kind of mute now, BSerry has gone ahead and bought a set of Hedman headers for his Vette. and he put a set of cast manifolds on his old chev pickup instead.
But we are still curious to see if the 82 factory headers are supposed to have gaskets or not.
