I'm wondering what the story is with these things; I heard they used to be available in repro, but were discontinued five years ago or so. It seems like an easy enough thing to manufacture, so I'm kind of mystified as to why they aren't being done.
Anyway, I need one--although my car is not a Flight candidate, nothing is really going to "do" for the trunk besides a correct-looking mat.
The going rate on ebay (although I haven't actually seen any red '62 mats) seems to be around $300  I did hear there were some at Carlisle last year...anyone have any other advice? Thanks in advance.
You might try Al Knoch and Romeo Engineering both on the mat. They were both in the process of tooling up to produce mats again and I understand that Romeo is already making a 59-early 60 mat. The word that I hear is that it is a real nice mat! I bought the last early 60 mat from a vendor over a year ago, and have numerous people try to buy it from me. This has been a real problem for restorers, and will hopefully come to an end with new production.
Hopefully, some of the more noticable incorrect areas of the mats will be corrected on the new generation of mats.
:seeya
I refused to pay $300.00 for a trunk mat for my 58 – I would of put in artificial green turf before I would part with that kind of money.:mad Seems that several venders carry mats in black and red but blue is really hard to find. I just call Mary Jo the Vettegirl and put in a request and in a couple of months she had one for $125.00.
