My car is missing the heater/AC vent duct (on the drivers side) between the vent ball and the main duct. Does anyone know if this peice is suppose to have the small round vent in it... like on the Rt hand side?
The reason I ask about the "foot cooler" is I just recieved a replacement part without the "foot cooler"... Was it only common to AC configured cars? or was it totally eliminated in latter years?
My original driverside vent does not have the foot cooler, the passenger side does.
Revision: I think that my driverside vent tube is an original piece, but on my Bubba ravaged car there is no telling if it is the "original" tube, it could have come from a non-A/C car.

My 69 driver's side duct does have a foot cooler. Maybe someone knows what's correct. I think mine is correct
I looked in my AIM to see if the NON AC variant showed the duct w/out the foot cooler... well, if I read it right, non AC cars have a different vent which is piped in the opposite direction to a plenum on the drivers side which forces fresh air in for the out side ??? its not real clear... so, I'm not sure if this the foot cooler is applicable to just AC cars... Are there any NON AC cars out ther with "foot heater" vents in the ball vent duct?
This was a long time ago but: For Non-AC cars, the ball vents near the doors draw air from the outside, from the plenum at points just above the door hinges. There will not be foot coolers on these cars since there are no ducts crossing over from the center dash to the ball vents.
The AC equipped cars are ducted completely differently than those without AC. Even the astro vents on the back closed up when AC was ordered. How do I know? One day I had the bright idea to retrofit factory AC parts into my 1969. But I was young then and spent too much time in the heat so my brain was fried.
My 1969 AIM shows foot coolers on the AC ducts connecting the heater boxes to the ball vents.
That's what I thought too. That's really too bad because the worst case is an A/C car with the A/C inop or removed... Absolutely no air/vents. If your car has A/C keep it working... Right!!
Well gents... So far, I have no idea why some of the AC ducts have the foot cooler and some dont. I'll assume that the correct one has the cooler as indicated in the AIM.
I have been restoring my AC system and this is just one of those things I may never get an answer on. I'm getting ready to pull the dash apart to change out the heater core (what fun!) Like silvervetteman said, got to keep'em running!
.... After re-reading throuugh the thread, its fair to say everyone agrees that the "foot cooler" SHOULD be there... But it sounds like no-one actually has one? Is this the case?
I can not speak to how the ‘69’s were built in particular and given the strange events of that year relative to production do not be surprised if “some do and some don’t.” The duct I picked up to install from a junkyard has the cooler but I do not know what year it came out of. Our '79 has only a dime size hole but no twisty cover.
I would suggest posting in Factory Correct but I guess that is where we are at now.
:D
