I thought I'd better post something quick before the moderators shut FCR down for lack of interest. It's been a few days and no new posts...Jeez!
Anyway, has anyone ever disassembled their e-brake handle? I'm sending some trim pieces out for chrome plating and would like to include my e-brake handle in the batch. I cant figure out how to take the plastic handle and release button off without breaking it. Is there a trick to this?
I could live with the chrome as is but since I've got the chrome plater's attention, I thought I might as well try to throw this in thr mic as well. To the best of my knowledge it appears to be the original.
It's been awhile since I've done one, but here goes. The black handle will pull off. BUT...you have to remove the square release button which is swedged/glued onto a shaft.
SO...there is a tension pin on the body of the lever that you have to push out. Once you have the tension pin out, you can pull the black handle inward....which will allow you to twist off the release button. Once the button is off, you can pull the handle off. Hope this helps. Chuck
Thanks a lot, Chuck!! I think this helps a bunch. I wasn't sure if the handle could be dissassembled without breaking it. I didn't want to do any experimenting because I think this handle was only used in '68 overlapped a bit with Late '67 and early '69. The new replacements I've seen have a handle pattern that looks completely different (smooth vs. the knurl pattern).
