We have the mirrors off our 73. We are trying to determine if they are factory correct. Did any of the 73's come from the factory with a passenger side mirror or was that a dealer add on or other. Below is listed numbers we found on mirrors and brackets. Can anyone tell us if these numbers identify any of these parts as factory correct?
passenger side mirror inside base; 61066, 921, HA, bracket 334790
drivers side mirror inside base; 3913063,151955 mx, bracket 3922027
A passenger side mirror was dealer or owner installed in '73. Not factory installed. I'm not familiar with the numbers you've posted, but generally you can identify an original mirror by it's configuration (size of the mirror head) and manufacturer's date code on the glass itself. Typically, you'll see the letters XDMIY where X represents the month that the mirror was manufactured, DMI being the symbol of the manufacturer, and Y is the year of manufacture. 2DMI3 would be Feb. 1973. For NCRS, dates of up to 6 months prior to the build date of the car are accepted.
Passenger side mirrors were always dealer installed up until '77 when the sports mirrors came out. Even then, if the standard (non-sports) mirriors were ordered, the passenger side was still dealer installed.
I don't think any dealer installed option is a big deal one way or the other. NCRS has a very small deduction for it so I wouldn't worry. I think the car looks more balanced with two mirrors and it sure makes driving in traffic a lot easier!
