Default driveshaft help II

I need to remove the driveshaft from my 80,L48,350, automatic so I can transport with a tow dolley. I can get to the u-joints but it seems like their isn't enough room to get it out. If the shaft that slides into the trans can move forward a bit I think it will come out. Can anyone help me? I tried general discussion first and recieved only one responce but he has a 69 and was able to slide it out the back of the car. -John-

Can you not disconnect the shaft at the transmission, move it up to slide the yoke out of the trans, then remove the driveshaft from the diff?

You have to remove the U-joint U-bolts at both ends (at the diff and at the trans output yoke) to get it out.

On an '80, as mentioned earlier, the trans yoke, when loosened from the shaft, will slide "into" the trans enough to drop the front of it down, then bring it down & out at this "angle". Also, you'll see that if they are "original", 1980 rear drive shafts take either an 8 point OR 12 point 1/4" socket on the heads of the bolts that hold the u-joint straps. Use penetrating oil BEFORE getting these out. IF you SNAP these special small 12 point head bolts, you'll be SOL.
