Are this the correct casting date coding for 1967 casted block ?
The first row vertically shows the date with the oil pan on the bottom
The 2nd row with the oil pan on top. It appeares that the date code is casted upsidedown, when the engine is sitting correct with the pan on the bottom.
Looks like L ?? 7
The number(s) in between the L and 7 could be 6 ? or 8 ?.
The 7 should stand alone for 1967, so what is behind de 6 or 8 ?
Big-blocks were cast at Tonawanda, which used two digits for the year in the casting date, so the last two digits are "67"; The "L" is December, and the digit(s) inbetween the "L" and the "67" are the day in December.
2 digits for the year ? Are you sure ?
Most of the 67 casted BB I saw have only 1 ( one ) number , hence 7 .
Also see the MORTEC.COM side.
I am confused.
What are the block casting #'s on the rear flange. The last number of the year was used in the Tonawanda engine plant not the last 2. That's why i'm asking for the flange #'s, this block is for a 68 model year corvette, Casted in Dec 8, 1967 if the 1st character is actually an L.

Yup, that's correct - the BB block is one of the few exceptions to the Tonawanda 2-digit year code format; almost all the other Tonawanda castings used the 2-digit year format in the date code.
