Default Help in Intake System

What's dose the local group here know of this system verses the Donalson Blackwing System?

Halltech Stinger Intake System
http://www.corvettegarage.com/produc...-Corvette.html

Donaldson Blackwing System
http://www.corvettegarage.com/produc...-Corvette.html

The Blackwing system appears to only come with the filter. I understand the filter is where the value is. But isn't the power duct important also?

I'm just trying to get the best bang for my buck. Wha-da-ya think?
Thanks for your help.

Hi ChasC5- I have the Halltech Stinger intake and am very happy with it. The Blackwing is a very good filter/system as well.

The Stinger as you said comes with the power duct and smooth air cupler to replace the stock accordion one. I bought the Stinger cuz it was more for the money. I don't thing the bigger power duct really makes a difference though unless you start doing some serious mods to the engine...but it certainly can't hurt either if you stay closer to stock.
Some Z06's have thrown lean codes using the Stinger intake because the Z06's do not have a MAF Screen and the computer cannot adjust to the added air intake the Stinger gives,, but if you have a C5 non Z06, no problems.
I did notice an increase in throttle response and a little bit more "ummph" after putting the Stinger on.
I would be happy to let you take a look at mine if you like, I am not that far from you at all. Just shoot me an e-mail or PM and we'll hook up.

Good luck with your choice

Thanks for the endorsement Frank. I'll take your input into consideration when making my selection.

I'm spending a lot of money on the Vette this year and I'd like to get the most bang for the buck. The Vette will be 6 years old this April and I haven't put as much money into modifications as I would like to because of home remodeling taking longer than expected. Now I'm free to go crazy on the car.

On the agenda:
A) Tiger Shark front facia, painting and engine compartment.
B) CCW wheel package.
C) Eirataspeed break package.
That should complete my major appearance mods for a while.

Then comes the performance modifications ... $$$$

The air bridge and smooth coupler do nothing on a "bolt on" engine. In fact it can lead to surging and lean conditions on some engines. However, it does look better than the stock one. In case you did not notice, the C6 Z06 has the same accordian couple as before and puts out 500 hp. On H/C cars, with tuning, it can make a difference. The reason is the PCM has an adaptive strategy on the turbulance of the incoming air and the milllesecond it spends in the MAF. GM has a different tune on the Z06 that is more sensitive to changes while the standard LS1 uses the screen in the MAF and the PCM has less sensitive tune as a result.

Results wise it s a tossup as to which filter will be better, both will add about 4-6 hp, the Donaldson makes high quality aircraft filters and has a reputation of high quality. The Haltech quality has improved greatly in the last several years.

I had the Donaldson on my 98 and I put the Haltech Stinger on my 04, no complaints with either. Donaldson has gotten really expensive since bought out by SLP, I believe, for just a filter in my opinion. I got the Haltech filter and air bridge for less than the DOnaldson filter.
