I just got back from Galena, IL. Theresa and I went for our aniversary. Very good place to visit, especially if you are a history buff. Went on a walking ghost story / history tour, that was pretty cool. I saw a ton of vettes up there several in a group. Wonder if they were vistors or locals? Also before we left, there was a whole group of Porsche's coming into town. It was an excellent place to cruise as well open roads 55mph through the hills with nice curves. I highly reccomend it! I even ran into one of my customers up there which is funny, small small world, 170 miles from home. If our pics came out decent I'll post them.
We go at least once a year. We both got tattoos at Gary's in town. There was a Vette show there for a couple years by the train station followed by a cruise but it didn't happen last year. Nice area, not too far and lots of neat little stores.
Next time leavew town to the north and follow the hills and curves on perfectly smooth blacktop at 80+ with NO traffic because they are all on route 20!

RICK,
So you did the OLD LADY WIGGENS GHOST TOUR did you? Been there done that and its a GAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been to GALENA two summers in a row with my wife in the C5 and this summer will be my third year in a row as its great to visit and a great ride for the vettes (beautiful scenic drive)!!!
Went there on a skiing trip this winter. Lots of nice twisty roads up there. Too bad I was in a minivan and not in my vette.
BTW, thanks for squeezing me into your schedule before you left Rick.

I don't think it was that one, the tour guides name was Steve Ruth I believe. We found the little add in the hotel lobby for his tour. It was pretty neat, we had the opportunity to hear some good stories and learn more history on the town. It was a good walk as well we were so lucky it didn't rain, well it drizzled a little then stopped just in time for the tour.

Not a problem, the timing worked out well.

If I was going to take this trip what would be the alternate route you are talking about? A couple of buddies and I thought about taking RT20 but if it is super congested there really is no point.

Thats what I was trying to figure out, I live south east of Galena so if I left north how would that work?
I am thinking he ment to go for a cruise in that area, as we went past the town and cruise a ways on route 20, which was all open road...

That makes a little more sense. A buddy of mine had taken Route 20 on a BMW Bike tour. I can't imagine it is very much fun to cruise in a heavily congested area on a Bike.
I am not sure when we plan on going but if you want a head's up to join us on the trip I would be happy to do so.
This is about the route I take when I go out and it is a blast, NO COPS! Unlike route 20.
From Galena: take county rt. 3 / stage coach trail east out of the north end of town. follow stage coach trails to west Galena Rd. which will take you to route 20 near Lena.
Or, for added fun before you get to Lena as you leave the town of Warren, turn left on E Winslow rd. it will change to Warren Rd. In the town of Winslow make a left-right jog and it will turn into W Winslow Rd. take to route 26 turn right (south) to Orangeville turn on High St. go 100 yrds turn left on E 2nd it will change to (county rd 4) W Rock Grove Rd. Go to Route 70 south. you're very close to Rockford and can go to Route 20, or, if you live north as I do go to Route 76 another nice road.
There are variations of this route and it sounds long, but I can tell you it is actually less time than running route 20 and LOTS of fun!!
