Take it to a respectable Chevrolet dealership and they should be able to appraise it. I'd call before you go and make sure that dealership does the appraisals. I took mine to Rose Chevrolet in Hamilton, OH when I bought it to get it appraised.
I had mine done at a body shop on 201 in Huber Heights. It's called Circle body shop @8715 State route 201
They (Nationwide) accepted their appraisal for set value
It's just South of Route 40 on 201
Hagerty insured mine with no appraisal. All they want is a few photos and an agreed value. Costs me less then $200.00/year, $20,000 agreed value and includes towing and no deductible. You might want to look around before you spend money to get an appraisal.
Edit: just had another thought. If you did get an appraisal based on the value of the car right now, and then 5 years from now you had the car stolen or totaled. Will the insurance pro-rate the value downwards like most newer cars, based on the 5 year old appraisal? Our older Vettes don't go down, but rather up in value each year. Would you need a new appraisal each year at renewal time?

Just inquired about this the other day with State farm.. After reading here. Here is what I was told. "State farm will cover the replacement cost of your car in the event of such claim, as long as you have documented proof of the value."
I too will be looking for an apraisel, once Im done with the restoration. If anyone knows of a good apraiser in the wi/il areal, Ide sure apprecaite knowing about it.
