Default C5 guidence needed

I am thinking about selling or trading off my "78" Pace car and getting a C5. I was wondering if there's anything I should look out for or make sure I get. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm not interested in racing it, just mainly a non daily daily driver if that makes sense.
Would prefer a 6 speed vert but consider all.....Ron

I would go for the newest model you can afford. I would check for differential side cover leaks. There are a ton of other things, you can pull codes through the DIC which may help you find out if there are any electrical issues.. I would check every button, every gizmo to make sure it works, just like any car. I would also look around for leaks like oil ect front and back... oil pressure senders like to fail on the LSx's... thats what I can quickly think of off the top of my head.. good luck on your search..

Oh oil consumption I blelieve that was 2001 previous I believe later engines have revised piston rings..

If you find a car you are interested in I would be happy to put it on the lift and check it over for you at no charge. I think you will be very happy with a C5 I would stick with a 6 speed car.
Good Luck, Dale

Good advice for sure coming from a GM certified mechanic who REALLY know his vettes! I will add, that I believe if you are into speed and overall performanc and can live with a hardtop, that the 02/03 Z06s are the best bang for the buck modern FAST and great handling muscle/sport car that you can get for the $. You can pick up a nice 02 Z06 for $28K and the car will beat or hang with most ferraris on both a drag strip or road race course. Now how you going to beat that? Go with an 02 Z06 as they make 20 more ponies than the 01s (405HP vs. 385) and may of the 2001 Zs had oil consumption issues!!
