Default Recommendations for Stereo Replacement Install

I think I'm due for an upgrade to my stereo system in the Vette (convertible keep in mind). I'm interested in a nice unit, maybe with a DVD/Navigation combo (do they make these yet?), along with a single CD and iPod connection. Here's my questions;

1. Any particular brand that anyone has or knows of that is recommended?

2. I don't want to take up any more precious trunk space, so I'm not looking to put big woofers in the trunk, but am interested in what others with verts have done - any thoughts?

3. Anyone recommend a specific dealer/install shop that does good work (has worked on Vettes)?

Appreciate any help!

Pioneer AVIC-Z1 http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...632461,00.html

Tweeter in Downers Grove installed mine in my FJ, along with amps, new speakers, etc... looks factory. iPod, Bluetooth, backup camera, voice command, it rocks! I LOVE the Pioneer Z1 Nav, I have seen them in vettes before, I think RandyVettes had one?

Yes I did, in the 02 Z06. Highly recommended except the NAV info doesn't show course at the Autobahn!!
Had to follow Jim to learn that one.

Brad, over the next month or two, I am upgrading my system. Talk to Greg (pentavolo) and Dave (DPG) they know their stuff very well. The send me a whole laundry list of everything they recommend. I can send that to you if you like. I am probably going to pull the trigger and start ordering about mid-April , and have it installed hopefully by May 1st-5th.

I'm a true audiophile. I have Kenwood XDC 20 HD with iPod interface, bi-amped using two McIntosh amps and DynAudio 2" tweeters, 9" woofers in the doors and 5 1/4 Marells in the back. Unlike some on this forum, the 3k price for each McIntosh amp, 1500 on the DynAudio speaks and 650 for the Marells not counting the cost of custom door plates makes mine set up a bit too pricey. I do not have the subwoofer box in the back, the 9" DynAudio Mid bass woofers reach 18 herz with no problem. I had my install done at Music in Motion http:www.musicinmotion.net, they done every one of my cars.

Wow! audiophile it is!!

I'm not that hard core - after all I do most of my driving topless so I lose a lot of the acoustics anyway - just want something that provides great sound (primarily upfront), decent base, but with a DVD/Nav set up preferrably.

Keep the input coming!

This is hands down the nicest nav/dbl din unit I have used. http://sonicelectronix.com/item_6838.html
The nav just blows everyone elses out of the water, becuase its garmin based. Unit needs no VSS wire hookup and the speed readout on it is rediculously accurate, as well if wired right you can enter nav directions on the fly as well as watch dvd's, but that would be illegal . If you are interested in having me a do an install for you let me know and we can figure something out. I just did this unit in a brand new s6 this past weekend and can shoot you some pics if you like. I have done more C5s then I can count as well as other high end cars, i have only done one C6. The sound quality IMO will be better with a new unit but dont expect a HUGE difference. The IPOD controls on it arent the best in the world, if you want something that can work an ipod nicely I recommend the alpine although you pay alot more for it. If it were my car I would do the kenwood with the nav and I can wire up the ipod so you do all the controls from the ipod but it stays charged and you get nice clean sound. If money is no object the alpine is very nice, keep in mind with the pioneer there is no bypass so that you can enter nav and/or watch a movie while the vehicle is moving. Shoot me a PM and Ill give you my number, even if you just have questions im more then willing to help out a fellow forum member

Greg

Toys Toys Toys Brad's system is gonna rock Greg and Dave looked like mad scientist, but really know their way around the C5 electronics the way they were setting stuff up.
