So I check my payoff on my 98 only 1 year left at $9000.00 bucks. I was so happy. Then I decide I am going to check out Kelley Blue Book to see what a 98 is going for. I dont even estimate the value in the fact I have taken perfect care of the car and it has 2000 chrome rims on it. And all that Jazz. With 80000 on it they say its worth $16000 in Good condition. OK Then I check auto trader.com / Cars.com and run a search for 98-99 for 17000 and under. I get two friggen peice of crap cars with 112000 miles on them for like 16800. They even had beat up wagon wheels on them. You cant find anything like mine for under 19500. Are these guys trying to base their price off the auctions? What a load! Its kinda like the realestate market that has basically gone It goes to show you if your willing to be a sucker someone is out there to screw you.
KBB never aligns with the real market on Specialty vehicles - including Corvette. They are only good for 3 year old Ford Taurus or Nissan Maxima type cars. Your Vette is worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay. Asking prices aren't the same as purchase prices either. All you can do is throw it out there for what you think is fair - and go from there.

I agree... corvette is a corvette... it's hard to give an accurate blue book on something that is a "specialty" vehicle...

A dealer will only pay 12-14 for a car like yours. You may get more on paper but remember its ALWAYS coming from your pocket. The dealer will consider reconditioning and resale time as well. Any mods are not considered positive as the limit the market from a bone stock car.

KBB, black book and auction results are just a tool dealers use to see what the market is. One nice car and one junk car can adjust the whole market + or -. The taurus is a great example, these car have a strong loan or book value but sell $2-3000. below in many cases. Due to a flooded market. You regularly see these used cars under $10000. and wholesale cost is $6-7000.

100% True. ANY cars value is what a REAL buyer will pay to take the wheel.

This is very normal in todays world of "If I can't afford it Finance it". Smart buyers will drive a lower dollar car paid for and upgrade as $$ allow. Many people from other countries still think this way, not most Americans.
I am a combination of Cheap and Old school. If I can not pay cash and own it, I rarely but it. I did have a loan on one Vette when GM gave 0% interest! My mods are usually purchased used or at great deal prices.
Yeah I thought you guys would get a kick outta that. I guess I figured it was worth around $19000-$20000. Again its amazing how some people would say "oh, thats all its worth?" OK! Ill take what I can get. Broke *****!
Matt- Tommy's made some excellent points..and I agree, Kelly and Autotrader are just a "gauge" I am in the middle of refinancing my vette (long story) Mine's an 01(40k miles) and in "excellent condition" as KB says, it came up about 21k on the web... when I was talking to the differnt banks though they were talking 26k-27k was the value.
Also read the definition on the side of the Bluebook page, there is a difference in how it calculates based on retail, or trade-in, or private party etc..

You never know what someone is willing to pay for a particular car.

Most people would probably cringe if I told them what I'd ask for my 98 if I ever decided to sell it. I believe that there's a buyer out there for just about every car if you're patient and are willing to wait awhile to sell it. If you start high on the asking price and the car doesn't sell, you can always lower the price.
