I am sad to report that my Vette hydroplaned off Route 53 Monday night during a heavy rainstorm and landed on a newly installed cement footing meant for a light pole. Luckily the light pole was not installed yet. My dog Flash and I escaped uninjured.
There is damage to the passenger side of the frame (bent in), both the lower rockers are in pieces and the door (what is left of it) is sprung, the targa top now has a new 2”opening on the passenger side, and there are large holes in the floorboards that Fred Flintstone would be proud of.
Please let me know if you are aware of a shop in Chicagoland that has reputable experience with Corvette frame and under-carriage repair. My insurance guy will be looking at the car this week but I expect that it will be totaled.
Who knows, my screen name may change to 365dayLT4 (or-maybe 365dayZR1) if I can find the right car and depending how the insurance works out. Please keep an eye out for me - I have an empty spot in my garage that may need to be filled.
Oh no! So sorry to hear that. :( :( :( At least you're ok.
I know of a place in Schiller Park called Supreme Body Werks. They don't cater specifically to Vettes, but they do great work. Above all, they are honest, and that's the most important thing. I've had them do work in the past, like remove pin stripes, and I am taking my solid roof panel over there soon to be repainted. Don't know if you'd be interested, but if so, let me know and I'll give you specifics.
Once again, so sorry to hear this Don. Hopefully, you'll be up and running again as quick as Vettewrench was.
   Wow!!! Don sorry to hear that! The main thing is you escaped without injury. Wish you the very best in finding a new replacement soon. Best of luck!
That's terrible news, Don. :( I'm glad both you and your dog fared better than the car did. If they do total it, prices are usually lower this time of year.
Well as if anybody felt your pain more!!!!
but glad you and flash are ok the car can be replaced as was mine with somthing newer and better. good luck ill let you know if i here of anything.

Re: 360degreeLT1 (365dayLT1)
Don:
That really sucks man I can defninitely feel for you. Well the most important thing is that you and your dog are fine and you will be getting into a badder ride. I vote for the ZR1 or how about a GS with a little NOS :smash:
I'm sure everything works out for you and would advise you to insist and fight to make sure your insurance company totals out your car b/c you definitely don't want to get that car back as it will not be the same.
Sorry again dude, but I see a silver lining here for you :D
Don,
Now I wont know what to look for when driving down 355/I-88 in the mornings on the way to work  Good luck on the search, I have a feeling you'll re-appear with better & badder! So, what do you think of Electron Blue?? :p:
Thanks for all of the nice replies everyone. I have been visiting all the vette dealears and watching the classified ads there are several nice cars out there. I will keep everyone posted on what I end up with!
Raina, Nice Upgrade. That is a beautiful color!
Patrick, Thanks for the offer to Wail on your GS. I would actually settle for a passenger seat 12.7X ride in that car. Does this one have it?
