Chicago area folks - Anybody out there installed a good iPod interface that integrates with the factory radio? I see one out there from www.usaspec.com that looks well integrated. If you know of a trustworthy place to get something like installed I'd appreciate input.
Both Dave and Greg are great guys. Whether they do the install for you or you just want some good advice, they're there for you. Corvette bretheren.....a great thing!
Birch64 - I have the previous gen Monster FM transmitter and it works OK at best. I found that turning Sound Check off on the ipod helped with the output. Any other tricks you know of to get the best sound?
Yeah, change out the head unit and go with a direct input. FM modulators suck for sound quality.
or go with a hardwired fm modulator. It basically plugs into the radio antenna, this way you get a better signal. Not the best, but better than just the regular fm mod. But its been basically hit or miss with the fm modulators. Some get lucky, most don't.
When it comes to stereo, lights or just about anything electrical on a car, you have to talk to these guys, they know their stuff. They hooked up an ipod for me and I never listen to the radio anymore unless there is a Cubs game on.
I have a 99 coupe and used a product from mp3yourcar.com. It hooked up through the wire jack in the rear storage space. If your car did not have the jack in the trunk a gm or aftermarket cable is needed and is connected into the wiring harness under the passenger feet area carpet to the right of the ecm. It works great and i have the cable exit under the pull out ash tray, the cable tucks away unseen when ipod is removed. Just an idea worth looking into.
I just installed the Peripheral ipod2car in my Z06..... this unit was recommended by Greg and Dave, it works great and a breeze to install (you must remove factory head unit from car), if your not comfortable with installing yourself Im sure these guys can get you set straight. I have seen photos of a bunch of different installs they have done from mild to wild

Will,
I agree that FM modulators suck, and sometimes it is better to swap head units with a direct input depending on what the individual would like to accomplish.
Speaking only for myself, I didn't wish to spend the money to upgrade my head unit, though I could have, even with the OnStar service that I have. For myself, it wasn't financially feasible to upgrade. I'd much rather do a couple of minor upgrades to my factory Bose system, like install the Bose Amp.
I did install a Peripheral iPod integration kit today (in my '05 Impala), and it works great, even with OnStar. For those with the CD Changer and OnStar, you'll probably have to decide which one you prefer to have available for you to use.
Dave, thanks for your recommendation and time on this one, I really appreciate it!
