Looking for some advice/assistance on purchasing a navagation system. I have been looking at the Garmin Nuvi 680 or the Tom Tom 920. Have read both positve and negative comments on both. Any input will be appreciated.
I have all three - Tom Tom in my wife's car, Garmin in the son's car, and Magellan in my daughter's car. I would buy either the Magellan or the Garmin. The Tom Tom has been replaced once due to problems and their customer support is weak.
I bought a Garmin Nüvi 250w for my dad and tested it for a week before giving it to him. I was very impressed. When I buy another one, it'll be that same model. I got it online, paid around 270 shipped to my house - lowest price I could find anywhere
bought my daughter a Garmin 650 from Costco for 320 shipped. It works great. I only have one complaint. The factory speaker. When I buy one for myself, it will have bluetooth and the rf transmitter. Even though the speaker is crap, it at least puts out a sound to let me know when to glance at the unit.
Some good help here if you are looking at Zumo models, I have a Zumo 550 for my scoot and it doubles for the car on a windshield sticky arm that is included. Don't know if you ride too or not. http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php
It's official, Garmin 660. Just my luck, gave it to the wife for her birthday and discovered it had been returned by someone. The case was missing and one of the plastic bags was torn open. Go figure. Took it back the next day and got another one. Now maybe she won't get lost as much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS again everyone for posting and providing info. MUCH appreciated.
There is another way to go. I use a Lap Top computer in my
business. I take it with me. Sometimes I fly in rent a car and drive to
remote farms.
I use a Garmin GPS 18 USB. The maps and mapping system are loaded
in my lap top. I plug the GPS 18 into the laptop with a USB Plug.
It is very easy to up date the maps, and if you want you can add
marine or topo maps. It will map to your destination, show your
location on a map anywhere. It will also talk you through all turns
on the way. Even will keep track of your speed, and time distance to
destination.
The draw back is you need to carry your lap top in the car with you.
