We used them at work until Nextel hit the scene. We were one of the early large accounts for Nextel in our area!! That was a few "moons" ago

FYI; the two way business is still strong though. Initially we lost a lot of customers to Nextel. But many came back after a few years due to the monthly fees. With two way, after the initial equipment purchase - there's no monthly access fees to be paid.
Most of our current customers are local businesses, that don't have territotries any bigger than what a central repeater system could handle. Most of them are public safety - for local cities/townships/counties; police, fire, road departments; that don't need coverage outside their area.
But now with IP addressing, dispatchers can access repeaters in other areas. They almost always already have internet access in house; so the "local area coverage" requirements for two way are being dissolved... without again adding monthly fees.
Right now, that's our only advantage; the lack of additional monthly fees.
It's a tug-O-war in this business sometimes.
